.app domain FAQs
What domain name restrictions are applied to the .app domain?
Some standard domain name rules apply to it. It does have an extra restriction: that only sites with a valid SSL certificate (‘https’) can use the .app name. However, you’ll get a free SSL certificate if you buy from 20i, and in this day and age it’s the default anyway.
Should I register other versions of my .app domain name?
Is your app going to be successful? If so, then we’d recommend it. Successful applications can be a target for scammers, so registering your domain in common variants may be worthwhile.
How do I move my .app domain to 20i?
You’ll need to get the domain name authorisation code from your current provider to transfer an .app domain to us
Then, you need to search for it in our ‘Transfer a domain’ tool in our control panel, My20i. You can then start the transfer, which can take up to five days (usually less, and your website will remain online). Once transferred you’ll start saving on renewals. Will I get a free year for transferring a .app domain?
You won’t lose any time already paid for on your .app domain by transferring to 20i and once the domain transfer has completed you’ll get an additional year applied for free!
