.london domain FAQs
What restrictions are placed on registering a .london domain name?
The restrictions are fairly relaxed: if you have a London address or if you’re providing products or services of interest to Londoners, then it should be approved.
Another restriction is that the domain shouldn’t be used for a website that might denigrate London or Londoners, or bring the city into disrepute.
There are also some choices of domain names that are blocked or reserved: tourist destinations mainly. So something like ‘BuckinghamPalace.london’ would be unlikely to be approved. If you’re unsure about whether your domain will be allowed, you can see the full .london naming policy here (PDF).
Do you do discounts in the first year on .london TLDs?
No: with 20i, what you pay in the first year is the same price as renewal. That way, you can make savings of up to 50% compared to other domain name registrars, so you save money in the long term.
We do offer discounts on domain names to those who wish resell our domains and hosting.
Should I register other versions of my domain name if I choose a .london domain?
That’s up to you, but to be safe and protect your brand, we’d recommend buying other versions of your company name with different popular top-level domains.
For example, if you had the yourcompany.london web address, a competitor or criminal could buy yourcompany.uk. They could use it to compete, or even worse: fool your customers into being scammed.
How would I transfer my .london domain to you?
It’s simple to move to us and start saving. You will need to get the domain name authorisation code from your current provider. Then, you need to search for it in our ‘Transfer a domain’ tool in our control panel, My20i. You can then start the transfer, which can take up to five days (but your website will remain online). You’ll be charged a transferral fee, but you’ll get one year’s registration.
